Feeding Insects Care Guide

Insects are the sole part of the diet for many reptiles such as leopard geckos and are part of a balanced diet for others such as bearded dragons. Always remember a starved insect will result in a starved reptile! Your reptile cannot get the nutrients it needs if the insects have not been appropriately feed and unfortunately most of the commercially bought insects have not had appropriate nutrition.

Water

The most important thing your insects need is water. Without water your insects may not survive past a few days. We recommend using a cut up small sponge or paper towel in with your insects and always keeping this damp.

  • Don’t offer free standing water to your insects as they may drown.

  • Do not offer fruit, vegetables or gel water cubes as a water source to feeder insects.

Feeding

We recommend feeding your insects Mazuri Hi Calcium gut loading diet. This has the best amount of calcium to phosphorus ratio for your lizard compared to other commercial “gut loading” diets. This is available to buy at www.mazuri.com or through a Mazuri retailer.

  • Do not feed your insects anything except the Mazuri hi-calcium gut loading diet.

  • Try not to get your Mazuri Hi-Calcium diet wet or it will grow mold.

  • Avoid any gel based or water cubed cricket diets.
